Law

A-level Law is a fascinating course where you will question everything you know
about justice, morality and fairness. You will examine the legal system in all its glory
and come to understand there are many inglorious elements. You will undertake units
on the legal system, law making, criminal law and contract law. The final aspect of the course will be examining how law and morality are not the same thing and how this impacts the legal system in practice. You will also have the opportunity to take part in mock trials, applying your understanding of the law to different scenarios.

As well as giving you an in-depth understanding of the legal system and how it works in practice, you will also develop many key skills needed for further study at university, including the ability to analyse, evaluate and apply complex laws to real life scenarios. Along side this you will have the opportunity to see the law in action through visits to different courts and visiting solicitors and barristers in their workplace.

AS: Two examinations at the end of year 12

A level: Three examinations at the end of year 13.

The course is suitable for students with an interest in how the legal system works in practice. Those with an interest in questioning why something is the way it is. Above all, it is for students who are willing to work hard and who want to succeed.

Students will usually progress onto university to study a degree in Law with the desire to undertake a career as a solicitor or barristers. However, this course also supports progression onto a number of degree courses including Business, Politics, Sociology, Philosophy and English. Students can also progress directly into the work place as a paralegal or legal executive.
