Sedgwick Ceremony 2022

Our annual Sedgwick ceremony took place on Friday 1^st July. The Sports Hall was transformed into a venue fit for the Oscars. Students in Year 10, 11 and 12 joined past Sedgwick Medal Winners, staff and Governors as a series of awards were presented by Mrs Moise (Deputy Head) and Mr Brown (Executive Head). We were also delighted to be joined by Dele Rotimi, previously Head of School at TUS and now in his first year as a Headteacher in North London. Mr Rotimi presented Graduation Certificates to each student in Year 11.

In a tradition that goes back to 1820, Sedgwick Medals are presented each year to 8 girls and 7 boys in memory of Harry Sedgwick who left a bequest to the school and also funded the planting of the trees in the courtyard of St John at Hackney Church. There is a vote by staff to determine the medallists. Sedgwick Medals were presented by Rev’d Graham Hunter to:

A special staff medal was presented to Sonia Lee (Harrison Catering) who has worked in our canteen for 18 years. The Jamal Mason-Blair Award for Sporting Excellence was presented by Ms Blacksley (Head of PE/Health and Well Being) to Javan Remy. The Award for Creativity went to Jason Lin, with subject awards being presented to Alanis Hernandez Vasquez (English), Marco Pieroni (Maths), Jeyda Copeland (Science). The Year 10 GCSE RE trophy went to Shadrach Ajiginni.

The school teaches three Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish, Mandarin and French). A new award for excellence in languages went to Rodiat Akandji.

The Shereka Marsh Award for History went to Max Yates. Mr Bennett collected the award on Max’s behalf from Shereka’s mum who has joined us regularly for the Sedgwick Ceremony since Shereka died in 2014.

After speeches thanking school staff and their peers by the outgoing Head Girl and Head Boy, Anisa and Kojo, the new student leadership team were announced. There were over 50 prefect applications and students had to make a presentation to their peers. The final shortlist were interviewed by a panel of The Governing Body. Our new Head Boy is Brandon Boateng, with Ade Adegbulugbe as Head Girl. Deputy Head Prefects are Yasmin Hassan, Esther Summers and Hassan Abdulbaki.

The ceremony ended with the new prefect team happily posing for photographs wearing their prefect ties.

Thanks in particular to Mrs Moise, Mr Aubrey (School Chaplain) and Ms Jobanputra who organised the ceremony and to everyone who was able to join us. Thanks to MST Media Productions we were able to live stream the ceremony and achieved a peak audience of 67! Thanks to parents and friends of the school who joined us.
