Merry Christmas from The Urswick School

Students and staff sang their hearts out as The Urswick School celebrated Christmas and the end of another busy term with a Carol Service at St John at Hackney Church. Led by our school Chaplin Mr. Aubrey, the service was the perfect way to celebrate Christmas and the start of the holidays, which began with a medley of Christmas songs, performed by The Urswick School musicians.

There were readings from Sixth form students, Caiampo Gomes and Damilola Jayeloa, a passage from the Quran read by Mohammed Rahman and a dramatic take on Bible verses by Year 9 and 10 drama students.

The Urswick School musicians led three Carols, with performances of ‘Once in Royal David’s City,’ ‘Hark the Herald angels sing’ and ‘O come all ye faithful.’ Soloist Nyla Rawlins gave a beautiful performance of Mary, did you know? By Mark Lowry & Buddy Green, and Mathias Ademaj performed Praeludium on the Church Organ.

A particular highlight came at the end of the service when members of staff surprised all at the Church with a rendition of Merry Christmas everyone, accompanied by the Year 10 band, which got everyone singling and in the Christmas Sprit before Mr Brown wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2018.

Congratulations to everyone involved who helped make the event a success, especially School Chaplain Mr Aubrey.
