Welcome Back: Sixth Form Reunion 2018

December saw the annual Urswick Sixth Form Academy Alumni Evening. This year we welcomed back Alumni from the past five years, along with the current Year 12 and Year 13 students. The evening was a resounding celebration of the outstanding achievements of the Class of 2018. Stories abounded about life at universities from York, to Warwick; Bristol to Manchester; Greenwich to Leicester as well as many other universities that our ex-students are attending.

We welcomed back Minh Trinh who won the Javaughn McNeish Trophy in recognition of gaining the highest grades for a male student, AAA in A Level Maths Physics and Chemistry. Olga Arslan won the Dilek Yener Trophy and was presented by ex-winner Yasmin Hanson, in recognition of gaining the highest grades for a female for 2018 with AAA in A Level Sociology, English Literature and Psychology. Past trophy winners Kanesha Edwards Taylor and Anil Suyur also attended, studying Psychology at Queen Mary and Political Economy at Kings College. The evening was also an opportunity for past students to advise and talk with our current cohort, but just as exciting was the chance that Alumni, who have now graduated from university had to network and discuss current and future employment opportunities.

This annual event gets bigger every year as an ever greater number of Sixth Form students go onto University and then graduate with degrees. All of our former students remembered their time at Urswick with great fondness and many spoke with teachers about the challenges they were supported to overcome. The school’s high aspirations for its students past and present were evident throughout the evening.

Believe and Achieve
