We celebrated record GCSE results on Thursday 26th August. There were screams of delight as year 11 students opened the all important envelopes.

Richard Brown, Executive Headteacher said:

‘These are our best GCSE results since the new 1 to 9 grading system was introduced. Given everything that these young people and their teachers have been through during the pandemic this is a fantastic achievement.

Kwadwo Kwateng , Head Boy at The Urswick School, said “I wanted to do the best for myself and something in me clicked. I want to thank all my teachers and everyone that supported me. I’m so grateful for The Urswick School.’

Jeyda Copeland  who achieved 9 GCSEs including a 9-8 in combined Science and 8s in English and Maths said  “I’m thankful for The Urswick School for providing a safe space for education, I am also so proud of myself, the hard work I put in paid off” Jeyda will be returning to study ‘A’ Levels at Urswick.

Parents were also present this morning as their children collected results. One year 11 parent said ‘I am so proud of my son for all that he has achieved and I am so grateful to The Urswick School for all of their support, I am excited for him to continue his journey in the school’s Sixth Form’

Amongst other highlights, Anisa Begum, Head Girl, achieved 6 GCSEs grade 7 or above including 8s in English. Marco Pieroni achieved 8 GCSEs at 7 or above with 9-9  in Combined Science and grade 9 in Maths and Spanish. Jaidan Haughton-Brown achieved 4 grade 9s in Combined Science, Maths and Spanish.

Results are 12% higher than in 2019 – the last time students sat formal exam papers. They are also higher than last year when grades were based on predictions submitted by teachers.

Mr Brown continued ‘our mission statement is Believe and Achieve and this year group have certainly lived up to that. Their attitude during the exam period was excellent. Young people and their teachers also attended revision classes at Easter and half-term and some came in on Saturdays to use our library to revise. This success is well deserved.’
