The Urswick School is delighted and proud to announce record-breaking GCSE results on key attainment measures, marking an important milestone in the school’s continued journey of improvement. This year, 64% of students achieved Grade 4 or above in both English and Mathematics, representing a remarkable 17 percentage-point improvement on the results achieved in each of the preceding two years, and representing the high water mark on these metrics in the school’s history.

These are the first GCSE results achieved under the leadership of Headteacher Dele Rotimi, who took over the Headship of the school in September 2025 with a clear ambition to raise expectations, strengthen academic culture and ensure that every student is supported to achieve their potential. The scale of progress made by this cohort is particularly significant: at the beginning of Year 11, just 39% of the year group were achieving the Grade 4+ English and Mathematics threshold. Reaching 64% by the end of the year is therefore testament to the determination and hard work of the students and the relentless support provided by staff throughout the year.

Mr Rotimi said: “I am immensely proud of our students and grateful to our staff, parents and families who bought fully into the new ambition, aspirations and ways of working we introduced this year. Our students responded magnificently. They worked hard, accepted the challenge to aim higher and were supported by a system that kept believing in them and kept them going. These results show what our young people can achieve when high expectations are matched by high levels of support.”

Reuben Cousens, the top achiever for the whole year group achieved 7 grade 9s (including Maths) and two grade 8s.

Rosie Turner-Lapsky, who achieved 3 grade 9s, 5 grade 8s and a grade 7 is returning to The Urswick School Sixth Form Academy and wanted to thank all her teachers.

Wasim Ali achieved 3 grade 9’s, 4 grade 8s and 3 grade 7s was so happy with his results, he said that he cannot wait to continue his Urswick journey in The Urswick School Sixth Form Academy.

The school now looks forward to welcoming many of the Year 11 cohort into The Urswick Sixth Form, which has established itself as a high-performing and inclusive post-16 provision with an exceptional record for student progress. Having developed the resilience, ambition and strong work ethic that have underpinned this year’s GCSE success, we are confident that these students can continue their journey towards excellent university, apprenticeship and employment destinations in two years’ time.
